Lizanne J. Ceconi is a founding member and the managing partner of Ceconi & Cheifetz, LLC. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Ceconi was a sole practitioner specializing in New Jersey family law. She is a recipient of the Saul Tischler award for lifetime achievement in the area of family law, and the William J. McCloud Award for recognition of her outstanding commitment to the Superior Court of New Jersey, Union County.

Practicing Family Law in New Jersey

Admitted to the practice of law in New Jersey in 1982 and in New York in 1989, Ms. Ceconi received her law degree from Seton Hall School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Villanova University. Ms. Ceconi also attended the University of Madrid through Georgetown University.

Ms. Ceconi has been a leader and pioneer in her profession. She served as the Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Family Law Section and also served as President of the Union County Bar Association, only the third woman to hold the position in its 103 year history and the first woman President of the Summit Bar Association. She was also the first woman to lead the Barry Croland Northern New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court. Her past bar activities include appointed membership to the New Jersey State Bar Associate and Union County Bar Association, Judicial and Prosecutional Appointments Committees, a non-political review board which vets potential judges and prosecutors for appointment and reappointment.

Since 1993, Ms. Ceconi has been approved by the Administrative Office of the Courts as a certified divorce mediator. She has also served as a Matrimonial Early Settlement Panelist since 1987. Ms. Ceconi has lectured extensively for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the Northern New Jersey Family Law Inns of Court, the Union County Bar Association and various civic organizations on issues such as basic rights of divorce, mediation, client consultations, expert witnesses, preparation of custody trials, parental alienation, equitable distribution of executive compensation and other prevalent family law topics. Ms. Ceconi also serves on the specially appointed Family Law Committee in Union County originally established by the Union County Assignment Judge.

Ms. Ceconi has been recognized by her peers as a Best Lawyer of America in Family Law as well as a Super Lawyer of New Jersey and New Jersey’s Women Leaders in the Law.
